New Mexico Route 66 Association

Johnnie Meier

Johnnie Meier, better known as Johnnie V, is one of New Mexico's most respected experts on vintage road culture. He is a former president of the New Mexico Route 66 Association and led a bold project to restore 9 prominent neon signs along Route 66 from Gallup to Tucamcari. His dedication to the history of early motor travel in New Mexico is unmatched. Johnnie owns the Classical Gas Museum in Embudo, NM. He'd love to have you stop by.

Johnnie will be speaking about Route 66 in New Mexico with an emphasis on the 1926-1936 alignment which brought the road through Santa Fe. Along that alignment and near our building one can find the infamous La Bajada. La Bajada is an escarpment that Route 66 climbed. It was the most treacherous section of the entire road. It was steep, rough, narrow and had hairpin turns over the lava rock. It took a full day to get up the hill

Denny grew up in a family of builders and designers, studied art and business and has had a life-long love for modern furniture and architecture. One of his goals for client projects is to create a look and feel that could have come out of a New York or Milan design studio in the 50’s or 60’s embedded with stealthy tech, materials, safety and efficiency upgrades to support modern lifestyles and sensibilities.
